One of the world's oldest reported injuries is the damaging effect of cold weather on the human body. The severe and life-altering damage that can be produced is currently seen more frequently in extreme outdoor sports than in occupational contexts such as the military. To limit the risk of limb and even life loss, the diagnosis and treatment of these injuries must be conducted thoroughly but swiftly. As a result, we undertook a comprehensive review of the literature on cold weather injuries (CWIs) in order to determine the epidemiology and current therapy techniques.
